If you have always desired to study how to play the violin, you can. You might have heard that it's better to start while you are young. And certainly that's right to some degree, but don't let that hold you back.
You need to begin by picking out a good instrument. That doesn't mean spending a fortune. There are many good used violins available to purchase. And truthfully they frequently sound better than new ones.
The opening thing you're going to need to learn is how to hold the violin. If it's not comfortable you may stop before you get started, or worse yet, you might even pick up a stress injury. Here is how you do it right. Place your left arm (if you happen to be right handed) below the body of the violin. Then curl your fingers on top the neck as you clutch the neck with your left hand. The effect will have your fingers and hand over the strings while the chin rest needs to be between your chin and left shoulder. The bow will be in your right hand which will be used to bow or pluck the strings.
Once you have mastered holding the violin properly, you can start to learn how to finger notes on the violin. Numerous stringed instruments like guitars have frets. Violins do not. Instead, violin musicians literally play "by ear" until they recognize exactly where every note falls on the fingerboard.
For this, you will have to distinguish 4 positions on your violin. The low notes are positioned away from your face. That is position 1. The 4th position is the highest notes and is the furthest up the neck. The strings themselves are tuned to specific notes, lowest to highest. In the open position (no digits on the fretboard) these notes are G, D, A, and E. Setting your fingers on the fretboard in other positions allows you to play other notes.
Notes are played in one of 2 manners. You can either draw the bow across the strings or you can pluck them. The latter method is named pizzicato.
Learning to understand music notes should be the next item on your agenda. If you don't know how to read music prior to learning how to play, you can start by studying music in a more introductory manner either by going to classes, having someone experienced in music instruct you, or learning on your own to a particular degree by going on the Internet and searching out various tutorials. Then get some quality violin sheet music made for beginners and you are ready to go.
You can also learn to play a violin on the Internet. This is a marvellous alternative for those who may not have the time to go to normal lessons. You can discover a fantastic online course of study by going to Discount Violins. And whether you are a novice or an expert, you'll find good prices on the ideal violin for your skill level.
